MTU Cyber Safety Project Launches Free Online Safety Workshops in Cork Libraries

The Cyber Safety Project, based at Munster Technological University (MTU) will deliver a new series of free, 1-hour online safety workshops in libraries across County Cork this May, in collaboration with the Skills for Life Programme. The Cyber Safety Project was established in response to the lack of tailored, accessible cybersecurity support available to Irish citizens, particularly older adults.

Dr Michelle O’Keeffe, Project Co-Lead highlighted,

“Ireland is becoming an increasingly digital society. By 2030, 90% of public services will be digital. Our over-65 population will exceed 1 million people. Without targeted support, many citizens risk exclusion, exploitation, and loss of trust in digital systems. This is not
just a social challenge. It is a national cybersecurity challenge”.

By delivering workshops through trusted local libraries, the MTU Cyber Safety Project ensures that support is accessible, inclusive, and embedded within communities. These workshops provide clear, practical, and easy-to-understand guidance designed to help
individuals protect themselves online.

Workshop Topics Include:

• Recognising and avoiding online scams
• Understanding privacy and cookies
• Creating and managing strong passwords
• What to do if you are hacked
• Safe online shopping

The workshops are free of charge, open to all, and no prior technical knowledge is required.
